Fans are already up in arms over a questionable officiating decision in the “Sunday Night Football” matchup between the Kansas City Chiefs and Atlanta Falcons.
The Falcons are at home hoping to improve to 2-1 with an SNF win over the Patrick Mahomes-led Chiefs, who sit at 2-0. In the second quarter, the Falcons were facing third down when defensive lineman Chris Jones was called for a roughing the passer personal foul.
The timely penalty awarded the Falcons with 15 yards and a much needed first down, extending what later turned out to be a fruitful drive off the back of a 1-yard Bijan Robinson touchdown run.

After witnessing the call on Sunday Night Football, some fans were up in arms while others argued it was the correct call. Check it out and judge for yourself:
Some fans think the NFL has gone too far with the roughing the passer penalties, a controversial topic in league circles.
“This is a complete joke,” one fan said.
“That was the most gentle takedown I’ve ever seen,” another added.
One fan chimes in, “The league needs to redefine what roughing the passer is.”
On the other side, many fans argued that it was a fair call.
One fan’s take: “Ball gone. Absolutely is. Wouldn’t be an issue with the contact but he followed through and bought him down.”
“I mean it kind of is, he got rid of the ball,” another responded.
Regardless of which side you agree with on this play, it is no secret that roughing the passer calls are a hot topic around the NFL.
This very well may come up in the offseason with the NFL and NFLPA working to determine a more clear outline of what constitutes a personal foul penalty in these situations.
