Kelce is having the worst season of his professional career, and the Chiefs are slowly starting to use other options in the offense.
Fellow Chiefs tight end Noah Gray is getting touches in big situations, scoring four touchdowns to Kelce’s two.
NFL fans know that Kelce could be on his way out of the league, and have shared their thoughts on his performance this year.
“It’s a retirement year for him for sure,” one fan said.
“Travis Kelce should’ve retired a champion,” another fan said.
“He’s washed now,” a third fan said.
“Should’ve retired with his brother when he had the chance,” a fourth fan said.
“His best days have passed,” a fifth fan said.
Kelce is already 35 years old, and his production could continue to drop as the years go on.
With this in mind, Athlon Sports’ Luke Easterling predicted that the Chiefs select Bowling Green tight end Harold Fannin Jr. in the 2025 draft.
“It’s time for the Chiefs to start planning for life after Travis Kelce, who will turn 36 next October,” Easterling wrote this week.
“One of the best kept secrets in this year’s class, Fannin is putting up ridiculous numbers this season, and his athleticism and versatility would make him the ideal understudy for Kelce.
“Giving Patrick Mahomes another explosive weapon at tight end would be a huge win.”
Fannin is having a spectacular season at Bowling Green and has doubled the amount of yards Kelce has produced this season.
In 12 games, Fannin has 1,342 yards and nine touchdowns.
In comparison, Kelce has 682 yards and two touchdowns in 13 games.
There are other top tight end options available in the draft that the Chiefs could pursue if they don’t get Fannin.
Tyler Warren out of Penn State has 1,062 yards and six touchdowns.
Colston Loveland out of Michigan is also expected to be a first-round pick.
Kelce could play one more year to mentor a rookie tight end before heading into retirement.
