Two US presidential candidates are Kamala Harris (right) and Donald Trump (left).

While billionaire Elon Musk announced his support for former President Donald Trump in the race for the White House, most employees at the companies of the richest man on the planet donated to support the Republican candidate’s opponent, Vice President Kamala Harris.

According to OpenSecrets (a non-profit organization that specializes in tracking US campaign contributions and lobbying data), the majority of employees at Tesla, SpaceX and X corporations donated to the Democratic candidate.

Specifically, Tesla employees contributed $42,824 to Harris’ campaign, higher than the $24,840 to Trump’s campaign.

SpaceX employees donated $34,526 to Harris compared to $7,652 to Trump. Meanwhile, employees of social network X donated $13,213 to Ms. Harris, compared to less than $500 for candidate Trump.

Although these numbers are relatively small for campaign fundraising, they reflect the opposite political leanings of billionaire Elon Musk himself.

Previously, the world’s richest man expressed support for candidate Trump on social network X.

The Wall Street Journal on July 15 quoted a number of informed sources as saying that billionaire Musk pledged to contribute about $45 million/month to American PAC – a political action committee supporting candidate Trump’s US presidential campaign.

Mr. Musk had supported President Joe Biden in 2020 but has switched to supporting the Republican candidate. Former President Trump has announced that if he wins the election, he will appoint businessman Musk to head a government efficiency commission.

The OpenSecrets data includes donations from employees and company owners, and immediate family members of those individuals. Election finance laws prohibit corporations from donating to federal campaigns on their own.
