Hamilton devastated: ‘Completely unacceptable, and it’s just totally me’
Lewis Hamilton will start the Italian Grand Prix in sixth place ahead of both Red Bulls but behind third-placed teammate George Russell. The Seven-time world champion thinks he should’ve done a much better job in qualifying for the race and was critical of his session, clearly upset with himself in the paddock after qualifying.
“I just didn’t do the job”
“I don’t think I was expecting more, but I was expecting to do a better job than I did,” Hamilton began in the paddock after qualifying. “First one, we were a bit further off than anticipated. For the second one, obviously, we were the quickest, and there were small areas to improve. And then the third, I just didn’t do the job,” he revealed.
Hamilton believes his performance was ‘unacceptable’
“I just didn’t extract the maximum. Turn 1 and 2, I lost the tenth and a half compared to my previous Q2 lap. And then I lost another tenth in Turn 11. Completely unacceptable, and it’s just totally me. The chance of fighting for a race win is out the window. I think tomorrow I’m just going to try and recover as much as I can and see if I can get past the Ferraris and see if I can try challenging to get to the podium,” the 105-time Grand Prix winner concluded.
Hamilton qualified poorly last time out in Zandvoort, too, as he was eliminated in Q2. The Brit worked his way back up through the field to an eventual eight-place finish from 14th. Qualifying has once again proved to be his kryptonite, and Hamilton will be wishing that his podium hopes come to fruition at the ‘Temple of Speed’ on Sunday.
