Country music star Keith Urban is opening up about drug use in his past.
The singer admits he has struggled, but things are great for him now. Whiskey Riff shared what Keith had to say about it all. The original conversation took place on Bill Burr’s Monday Morning Podcast.
Keith Urban Talks His Start In Country Music
Back in 1992, Keith Urban started out in country music and moved to Nashville. This was a tough move for him from Australia. He revealed to Bill Burr that it was harder than he expected. He said, “I got to Nashville and it was really hard. Harder than I thought it was going to be. I couldn’t have checked more boxes of, ‘This is not going to work.’” Lucky for everyone, things worked out and Keith is a star today.

Struggles He Encountered
One big struggle that Keith Urban had to deal with was people talking behind his back. He had people telling him that he would make it, but they were saying the opposite to other people. They were going as far as to call him “crazy.”
He didn’t have much support and went on to say, “That’s where drugs came in, and they worked great for me. Because it allowed me to stay and (to) just keep going at it.” Urban was able to put more work in with the help of drugs, but of course, that isn’t the best way to go about it.

Urban shared that he wasn’t a drinker like his dad at all, though. He has been to rehab, he is sober and things are going great for the country music artist now. The entire podcast is below and you can check it out. The part with Keith Urban is the first hour.
Songwriting is where he finally broke through in Nashville, Tennessee. Urban went on to explain how they embraced him.
“I had written a song, and I was trying to pitch it around town. It ended up on my first solo record and then it ended up being my first number one song. I was really lucky because the writing community, the songwriting community was really good to me right out of the gate. They knew I was the real deal. I could play, I could write, and I was there for the long haul.”
