WNBA star Angel Reese recently released the latest episode of her “Unapologetically Angel” podcast with sports journalist Kayla Nicole.

Nicole, the ex-girlfriend of Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, has seen her name across countless headlines since she was in a relationship with the NFL star.

While many fans have spoken down on Nicole and her previous love for Kelce, mostly due to his current relationship with music icon Taylor Swift, Nicole made it clear that what she really had to overcome was losing a best friend when their breakup was official.

She explained that public scrutiny has taken its toll and losing a partner whom she trusted and spoke to on a daily basis was ultimately the hardest task.

“I think the combination of everything is like the perfect storm to make you want absolutely disappear from the world entirely,” Nicole said. “I think behind closed doors, the hardest part about a breakup is just losing, like a partner and a best friend, and someone you talk to every single day,” Nicole said. “You go from speaking every day to having to cut ties.”

Nicole mentioned that a heartbreaking moment like this may be common in relationships and her focusing on her mental health was important during that time.

“We all go through heartbreak, and even when people are poking and prodding at your every move, it’s not what’s important,” Nicole said. “I think what’s really important is to check in with yourself and figure out where you are mentally.”

Nicole and Kelce reportedly had an on-and-off relationship for five years. They started dating in 2017, officially making their red carpet-debut at the ESPY Awards in July 2018.

While the Chiefs star has moved on, having been connected with Swift for the past year, Nicole mentioned that she knew it was important to build her own brand while being with another man.
