After two years of tension, Kanye West and Adidas have reached a settlement to end their long-running legal battle.

Recently, Adidas CEO Bjørn Gulden confirmed that both parties have agreed to settle out of court without financial compensation to anyone.

“There are no unresolved issues and no money has been transferred to either party. Kanye and I are moving forward on our separate paths,” Gulden said in a statement. This marks a significant step forward as Adidas and Kanye West have decided to withdraw all legal claims, abandoning all disputes after a long period of tension.

Kanye West and Adidas were once important partners, especially with the Yeezy product line, which brought huge profits to the German shoe company. However, the partnership between the two sides broke down in October 2022, after Kanye West caused controversy with a series of anti-Semitic statements and wearing a T-shirt with the words “White Lives Matter”. This action caused Adidas to stop the partnership, leaving an inventory of Yeezy shoes worth about $ 1.3 billion. Meanwhile, Kanye West lost his billionaire status because the partnership with Adidas accounted for $ 1.5 billion of his total assets.

Long-standing tensions and agreement to end litigation

The tension between Kanye West and Adidas did not stop at ending their collaboration, but continued with a series of lawsuits from both sides. Kanye West claimed that Adidas sued him for $250 million and did not pay royalties for shoes bearing his name. The rapper accused the German shoe company of using the contract to oppress him and accused them of “imposing artists in broad daylight” with legal terms. This dispute not only affected Adidas’ profits but also seriously affected Kanye West’s image in the fashion market.

Ultimately, Adidas and Kanye West decided not to pursue the dispute any further, agreeing to drop all claims. The end of this legal battle not only marks a tumultuous journey for both parties, but also opens up the possibility of restructuring the Yeezy brand and clearing Adidas’ massive inventory.
