Harry Styles wants to erase his history with One Direction
He’s the biggest name in One Direction, but as a solo artist, Harry Styles seems determined to erase his past.
I can reveal Harry’s desire to quit his boy band comes just days after any mention of 1D was removed from the promo for his documentary.
The hour-long entertainment show, called ‘Harry’, has launched and features an interview with his friend, Radio 1’s Nick Grimshaw.
But an official BBC write-up for the show describes how Styles will “perform tracks from his chart-topping self-titled debut album and chat to Grimshaw about his life as a solo artist and starting his acting career”.
It makes no mention of the world’s biggest boy band, the group that made Styles a global superstar.
It is understood that Styles’ decision to erase his past is due to his desire to be taken seriously as a credible musician.
His debut solo single, “Sign of the Times,” went straight to No. 1 and his album topped the charts.
A source revealed: “The path Harry has taken with his music is very different to the kind of big pop songs he performed with One Direction. So Harry is very keen to escape his teenage days and reinvent himself as a rock star.”
The source added: “It is understood that a One Direction segment was filmed as part of the documentary, though.”
The snub will certainly come as a blow to the millions of loyal 1D fans around the world who have supported Harry and his former bandmates throughout their careers.
Meanwhile, former member Zayn Malik has also hinted at a falling out with Styles, saying he didn’t expect to stay in touch with Styles after his surprise exit from the band in 2015 because they never really interacted.
He admitted: “I never really spoke to Harry even when I was in the band. So I didn’t really expect to have that big of a relationship with him when I left.”
They certainly have a lot of history – but why Styles wouldn’t want to remember his boyband days is beyond me.
