Two-time major winner John Daly is among those to have had his home decimated by Hurricane Helene.

The 58-year-old golfer lives in Clearwater in Florida which was among the cities in the path of the destructive Category 4 hurricane, which tore down through the region at the end of September.

Tragically, over 190 people have been killed by the hurricane according to CNN as of October 3.

Thousands more have been affected by the impact of the storm as homes have been lost and power has been cut across a number of states.

Daly spends most of his time living in his birthplace of Dardanelle in Arkansas, but is one of many who will have to deal with the damage to his home in Florida.

Speaking to pgatour.com in the aftermath of the disaster, Daly tried to put his shock into words.

“I more think it’s the memories that Mom, Chrissy and Matty over the years have in that house,” he said. “The memories is what you miss when you lose something like that.”

“It was bad,” he added. “I mean, I feel for everybody. I’m surprised we didn’t lose more people. But it’s sad for the ones we did.

“It’s devastating. It’s the worst I’ve ever seen. I hope everybody gets safe and gets their home back. But my heart just goes out to everybody.”

Daly also explained that in addition to his own home, a number of his close family and friends has also lost their houses in the storm.

“We’re going to have to do about three and a half homes, almost four,” he explained. “I just haven’t gone back into mine. I’ve restructured it and fixed it.

“I haven’t been in it two years, get all the stuff in there and then it’s all gone.

“Anna’s mum lost her house, Matty’s burned down yesterday morning and Chrissy she had to get a boat to get to hers. So they’re all pretty much gone.”

He added: “You live in Florida, you have to understand that’s going to happen, but not like this. I didn’t think it would be this bad.”

Hurricane Helene has been recorded as the most powerful ever to hit Florida’s Big Bend, with wind gusts reaching a speed of over 70mph.

Daly’s greatest successes as a golfer came in the 1990s when he won both his major titles.

He emerged as the victor of the 1991 PGA Championship after coming in as the ninth alternate that year.

Then just a few years later he won the 1995 Open Championship in St Andrew’s.

He is currently competing in a PGA TOUR Champions event, the Constellation FURYK & FRIENDS, at Timiquana Country Club in Jacksonville, Florida.
