Harry Styles helped a fan come out to her parents during his performance.
If you needed another reason to love Harry Styles, here’s a new one at his latest concert.
On Wednesday night, McKinley McConnell held up a sign in one of the front rows of Harry’s concert that read, “My mom is in section 201. Help me out.” According to posts from a fan-run Twitter account that shares updates about Harry’s tour dates, Harry saw the sign mid-concert, asked for the lights to be turned on in the house, and approached McConnell to ask for her and her mother’s names.
Harry then handed the microphone to McConnell, who was hesitant to comment on the crowd size in the arena, and Harry responded firmly. “I can do it if you want,” he offered. “Do you want to tell her or should I tell her?”
“Can you tell her?” McConnell asked.
“Yeah, I can tell her, no problem,” Harry replied. On the big screen, the rest of the audience followed as Harry ran to the other side of the arena, to face the section where McConnell’s mother was, raising her hand to confirm her identity.
“Lisa! She’s gay!” Harry shouted with a smile. The crowd erupted in cheers when McConnell and her mother appeared on the stage screen, reacting emotionally to the moment.
It was the second time in a week that Harry had helped a fan come out. At a show in Connecticut on Tuesday, he helped another fan come out by waving a bisexual pride flag they were carrying. Their sign, which read “Help me come out, wave my flag,” caught his attention.
“Is this your flag? Do you want me to wave it?” Harry asked before the fan threw the flag to him on stage. “When I raise this flag, you’re officially out. That’s how it goes, I hear.” Harry then encouraged the crowd to cheer for the fan before waving the flag in the air and taking a knee.
“I feel good, but I can’t imagine how good you feel,” he said to the fan.
Later that night on social media, the fan thanked Harry for contributing to such a special moment. “I can’t thank you enough for making this moment so special to me,” they wrote. “I’ve loved you since I was 12 years old and have been there for every milestone that you’ve accomplished, now you’ve been there for mine.”
Harry Styles — an ally for the ages.
