Perhaps the least surprising person to embrace the current country music boom—the No Doubt vocalist is married to Blake Shelton, after all—that doesn’t mean that fans were expecting a country album from Stefani.
Bouquet, Stefani’s first album in over eight years (excluding her 2017 Christmas compilation album), will be released on Friday, 15 November, via Interscope Records/Universal Music Group.
The album has been spearheaded by a single we’ve already heard (Purple Irises with Blake Shelton), but Stefani has just released a second single called Somebody Else’s.
Embracing retro ‘70s rock influences and inserting them into modern country production, Stefani’s voice stands out in the rocking tune.
As a press release notes, Stefani recorded Somebody Else’s with a full live band at Smoakstack Studios alongside award-winning producer Scott Hendricks.
Working with the same team she enlisted throughout the rest of Bouquet, Somebody Else’s is highlighted as an “outlier” on the album.
While Stefani wears a cowboy hat on the album cover and the record features Blake Shelton, she stressed in an interview with Rolling Stone that Bouquet isn’t actually a country album but an LP inspired by ‘70s yacht rock and pop radio hits.
You can listen to Somebody Else’s below and pre-order Bouquet here.
Gwen Stefani isn’t the only member of her family chasing the country music dream. Last month, her 16-year-old son Zuma made his debut at Blake Shelton’s Ole Red bar in Oklahoma.
Zuma performed two Zach Bryan covers, Oklahoma Smokeshow and Revival (per Today).
In videos captured on the night, Shelton referred to Zuma as his and Stefani’s “middle son” and proudly told the audience how he “has been working on music all this time as well.” Shelton then quipped on Zuma’s song choices, “He’s decided that he’s a country guy.”
Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton started dating in 2015 after meeting as coaches on The Voice US.
They went public with their relationship in November 2015 before getting engaged in October 2020 with a ring hidden in his pick-up truck. The couple tied the knot in an intimate ceremony over the 4th of July weekend in 2021 at Shelton’s Oklahoma ranch.
