In an interview with Rolling Stone on Friday, September 20, the 54-year-old artist clarified, “It’s not a country record.”
Stefani’s fifth studio album, titled Bouquet, was recorded in Nashville, a city synonymous with country music, but she emphasizes that the album reflects her love for ’70s pop-rock rather than traditional country sounds. “It’s all the stuff I listened to in the station wagon on the way to church,” she explained. “Yacht rock, though it wasn’t called yacht rock then. The music I listen to now, I wanted this album to reflect that.”
In a bid to create a cohesive project, Stefani aimed for Bouquet to serve as “one big statement.” She elaborated on the album’s title, stating, “That’s why I feel Bouquet is a really perfect title. Like each song was handpicked with meaning.”
Stefani, who is also a coach on The Voice, announced the release date for Bouquet on September 18, revealing that it will hit shelves on November 15. This marks her first solo album in seven years, following her previous release, This Is What the Truth Feels Like, in 2016. She took to social media to share her excitement, stating, “My fifth studio album, Bouquet, will be in full bloom on November 15th 💐.”
On September 20, the singer dropped her latest single, “Somebody Else’s,” which showcases her signature style. The track captures the relief that comes with moving on from a past relationship, expressing feelings of liberation and newfound love. Stefani opens the song with the lines, “I don’t know what a heart like mine was doin’ in a love like that. I don’t know what a woman like me was doing with a man like you / But now I got a love so true.”
The chorus reinforces her sense of freedom and closure, as she sings, “Now that I’ve found the real thing / You don’t compare / And I don’t care that you’re somebody else’s / And it doesn’t even break my heart / You’re somebody else’s / And I pray for them whoever they are.”
Stefani’s latest musical project comes during a busy time for the star, who has balanced her career in music with her role as a television personality. The iHeartRadio Music Festival took place in Las Vegas on September 20, where she performed onstage, captivating audiences with her energy and charisma.
Her return to music has been highly anticipated, especially after her ventures into television and her role as a mentor on The Voice. Fans of Stefani are eager to hear the new material, particularly as she shifts focus from her past projects to explore new musical landscapes.
While Bouquet may not conform to the country music genre, Stefani’s artistic vision continues to resonate with fans across various music styles. As she prepares to release the album, her ability to blend different influences into a singular sound remains a hallmark of her career.
With Bouquet, Gwen Stefani is set to offer a fresh perspective, drawing from her musical influences while also embracing her unique style. The excitement surrounding her upcoming album highlights her enduring appeal and showcases her talent as an artist who continues to evolve.
As the release date approaches, fans are left eagerly anticipating what Stefani has in store. The album promises to be a vibrant collection that reflects her journey, experiences, and the myriad emotions that come with love and relationships. Whether you’re a long-time fan or new to her music, Bouquet is sure to deliver the memorable melodies and poignant lyrics that Stefani is known for.
