On October 26, 2000, Garth Brooks announced his plan to step away from the music business.
He went home to Oklahoma to spend time with his family. The country superstar stayed off the radar for more than a decade before returning to the spotlight. Next month, he’ll pull back the curtain on the years he spent at home with The Anthology Part IV: Going Home.
The new installment in the Anthology series will feature never-before-seen photos from the 14 years Brooks spent in Oklahoma away from the spotlight. Additionally, it contains stories from Brooks and people who helped him enjoy his years at home including Trisha Yearwood and longtime friends and teammates.
“Those 14 years of my life are the ones I’ll always remember,” Brooks shared of the time he spent at home. “It was life at its best. I learned to be a dad, my girls got to know me, and I’d never for one second regret walking away from a career in order to find all of that,” he added.
An entry in the Anthology series wouldn’t be complete without some music. Part IV will include a six-disc collection that features tracks from The Lost Sessions, Blame It All on My Roots: Five Decades of Influences, and original songs from his early Capitol Records releases.
More About Garth Brooks’ Anthology Part IV: Going Home
According to his website, Garth Brooks had no plans to release music while he was out of the spotlight and spending time with his family. However, Walmart came calling with a proposal to release an exclusive boxed set with songs from the vault. This led to the first Limited Series set which featured Sevens, Scarecrow, Double Live, and The Lost Sessions. The latter is a collection of previously unreleased recordings Brooks made between 1997 and 2001.
The collection reveals how he balanced being at home in Oklahoma and going to Nashville to record for the first Limited Series set.
“That’s the good thing about Allen Reynolds,” Brooks said about working with his longtime producer. “Just because a recording hadn’t appeared on a record yet didn’t mean it wasn’t worthy. Sometimes it just meant the song’s time was still yet to come.”
The Anthology, Part IV: Going Home is available for pre-order on TalkShopLive and Amazon. It is set for release on December 6.
