‘Who Gives a Sh*t?’: Tiger Woods’s Legacy On the Decline as Fans Refuse to Take New Positive Update Seriously
The last time Tiger Woods played golf was at the Open Championship in Royal Troon. Since then, the 48-year-old has not teed up at any event or made any news. Except it was shared by the 15-time major champion that he has undergone yet another surgery. It was Woods’s sixth back surgery, a microdiscectomy done to aid a pinched nerve. The procedure was done in September. Since then, he has been recovering and is probably in rehabilitation.
Because of that, Woods revealed that, unlike in 2023, he would not be laying in Albany, Bahamas, at the Hero World Challenge. This is disappointing indeed, but that does not mean that the 82-time PGA Tour winner won’t be there at all. After all, he is the tournament host, and even if he is not playing with 19 other top PGA Tour stars, he can always present the trophy.
Unlike the past days, fans are not interested in having Tiger back from the Woods, as echoed by one user’s sentiment, “Who gives a s–t?”
But before that, the legendary golfer would do his annual press conference in Albany, Bahamas, and answer some questions about his health, his game, and his future before the Hero World Challenge starts. It was the same time last year Woods shared his one-event-per-month plan, which did not become a reality.
The press conference will be on Tuesday morning at 9:00 AM as NUCLR Golf reported on X.
Netizens question Tiger Woods’s future
The last time Tiger Woods lifted the trophy was at the 2019 ZOZO Championship. The 48-year-old won the event and tied the record for most victories on the PGA Tour with Sam Snead. Even after his many surgeries, Woods showed he had it in him to win again and again. But after the 2021 accident, he has been unable to repeat that feat. In the last five years, Woods has not won a single event, let alone finish in the top 10.
It is sad, as this user questioned, “Will tiger ever return to greatness?” While that question hung in the air without anyone to answer, another user took a brutal jab at Woods’s declining form. In the 2024 season itself, the 48-year-old missed the cut in all major championships except the Masters, where he finished 60th and withdrew from the Genesis Invitational. As his form dropped, this user said, “Actually, who cares? He will Never win again.”
And they were not the only ones to do that. As it seems with Woods losing his winning factor, the people have grown over him in the past years. They probably are not as excited for him as they were before 2019. One used added, “Care factor zero.”
It became a joking matter in the golf world that Tiger Woods’s appearance on the news didn’t budge the netizens at all. While his legacy was questioned as he underwent recovery, one joked about how he does the press conference every year in Albany and said, “It’s funny how this has become like Tiger’s annual State of the Union.”
Will Tiger Woods’s popularity and grasp on the golf world decline as he fails to play well? It remains to be seen, but as the legend he is Woods would surely not go away anytime soon.
