Ultra-rare car that’s ‘very powerful, very fast’ and has been fully restored to sell for $70,000… because of its color
The rare color combined with its engine makes this a scarce set of wheels
AN ULTRA-rare car is up for sale for $70,000 – with its incredibly scarce color a big reason for its massive price.
The iconic fourth-gen Mercury Cyclone was available in several different versions at the time, some of which are now highly sought after by enthusiasts.

According to Auto Evolution, the 1970 model introduced several changes – with three variations on offer.
Mercury used the Torino body for the Cyclone, with changes also made under the hood.
The Cyclone GT, which was powered by a 351ci engine which boasted 250bhp, was joined by the base configuration 429ci unit with 360bhp.
There was also a 370bhp version, while the Super CJ developed 375 bhp.
However, the rarest choice was the Boss 429, which saw low production numbers and is considered extremely rare in 2024.
Amazingly, a fully-restored Cyclone 429 four-speed has turned up on eBay with a price tag of $70,000, described as “very powerful, very fast”.
Based in Syracuse, New York, perhaps the most striking feature of the car is its paint job, which has been confirmed to be Competition Orange.
Only 243 examples were painted in this color, with the paint coupled with the trim code and 429-4V CJ engine under the hood making this car particularly rare.
Only 87 examples rolled off the assembly lines with this setup, and it’s hard to determine how many of these exist today, with the same engine and transmission installed on only 149 cars produced in 1970.
A report by Marti reveals that the car was ordered with Ram Air induction, power front disc brakes, power steering, AM radio, and a tachometer.
The car is available to buy now at the price of $70k, or eBay users can make the seller an offer.
This comes as a very rare Porsche 911 has gone up on sale for a huge price – with the flashy motor barely driven in its 43-year life.
The beloved car has been virtually untouched since it was made in 1981 with the original owner clocking just 2,400 miles before leaving it tucked away in storage.
And a Plymouth Superbird – a legend among gearheads for its NASCAR prowess – has found sat in a warehouse since the late 1970s or early 1980s.
The car was reportedly repainted at some point and is still rust-free, but the original vinyl top is missing and the interior was gutted.
Worse still, the space under the hood is empty, with the original engine no longer around.
