Sanders shared his thoughts on Belichick’s decision on X

DEION Sanders opened up on Bill Belichick taking on the head coach position at the UNC football program.

The Colorado Buffaloes head coach shared his take on the former New England Patriots icon stunningly joining the college ranks this week.

Belichick, who spent most of 2024 working in the media, agreed to a five-year deal with North Carolina on Wednesday.

The 72-year-old will step into the college football world for the first time after two decades of coaching in the NFL with the Patriots, winning six Super Bowls during that span.

The NFL icon Sanders revealed his approval of Belichick’s decision on social media.

“Coach Bill Belichick is a (coaches’) Coach to All us Coaches along with my man (Coach) Saban!” he wrote on X.

“They’re game changers and they know how to move people forward.

“I know this is a great thing for College Football & for North Carolina.

“God bless u Coach, if you’re happy I am 2!”

Belichick joining UNC is somewhat similar to when Sanders took over at Colorado in 2023.

Both were big names looking to jumpstart programs.

Sanders joined a Buffaloes program that has just one double-digit win season since 2001.

The Tar Heels, meanwhile, has just one since 1997.

After a 4-8 record in his first season, Sanders and the Colorado squad went 9-3 and was a huge factor in the Big 12 race until the last weekend.

It will be a tough task for Belichick, who will be taking over a UNC team that let go of their greatest coach, Mack Brown.

“I am excited for the opportunity at UNC-Chapel Hill,” Belichick said in a statement.

“I grew up around college football with my dad and treasured those times.

“I have always wanted to coach in college and now I look forward to building the football program in Chapel Hill.”

Belichick’s father worked as an assistant at North Carolina from 1953 to 1955.

This year, Belichick worked as an ESPN analyst.

He worked on The Pat McAfee Show and MNF’s Manningcast.
