Jelly Roll Reveals “Horrible” Illness Almost Forced Him To Cancel Beautifully Broken Tour Stops
Releasing his album Beautifully Broken back in October, Jelly Roll wanted to celebrate the new album with a massive tour. Heading on the road for one of the biggest tours of his career, the country singer looked forward to sharing his music with fans all over the country. The only problem, not long before his first concert, the singer found himself in a great deal of pain. And according to Jelly Roll and his wife, Bunnio Xo, the star was sick for the majority of the tour.
Speaking about his tour on the Dumb Blonde podcast, Jelly Roll admitted “I was on antibiotics for 70 of the 90 days of that tour.” Going into more detail, Bunnie explained how he needed to go to the hospital after suffering from horrible stomach pains. Jelly Roll continued, “I hadn’t ate for a week. Just could not. It was horrible. I thought we were gonna have to cancel the first five shows because I thought I had to get a gallbladder removed.”
Jelly Roll Goes From Dentist To Stage
Although Jelly Roll didn’t cancel the shows and put on a stellar performance in front of thousands, the singer still struggled with his health. Bunnie noted how he even suffered from an infection in his mouth. “My husband literally went to the dentist, to the oral surgeon, had surgery on his mouth, pulled up, walked in and walked on that stage.”
Remembering going from dentist to stage, Jelly Roll said, “My mouth was still numb. I did the first three songs feeling like I had slobber coming off my face. It’s still there. I still gotta go get the cyst removed this month. I still gotta get a dime sized cyst removed from the middle of my teeth.”
While struggling to get through a few of the concerts, Jelly Roll loved every second on stage. “It’s weird. Spiritually, it was the best tour of my life. Performance-wise, it was the best tour of my life. The 90 minutes we were onstage, I think we connected the way we’ve never connected from the stage, overall.” He added, “Physically, even though I lost 100 pounds, worst tour of my career.”
Although Jelly Roll called it the “worst tour” of his career, fans disagreed as the concerts received high praise.
