Dak Prescott is fed up amid difficult start and sends a tough message to angry Cowboys fans
Dallas suffered a tough home loss
Though they made a valiant comeback attempt, the Dallas Cowboys could not climb out of 28-6 hole against the Baltimore Ravens and suffered their second home defeat in as many games at AT&T Stadium. The Cowboys‘ 28-25 loss on Sunday dropped Dallas‘ record to 1-2 and sounded alarm bells all around the Metroplex, even at this early stage of the 2024 NFL season.
Two weeks ago, Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott became the highest-paid player in league history by virtue of signing a $60 million per year contract. As such, the expectations on Prescott rose significantly — and as he struggles to match those expectations, Dak has sent a message to fickle Cowboys fans who are upset with the team’s slow start.
Prescott’s five-word missive
As he walked off the field at AT&T Stadium on Sunday, Prescott revealed his strong personal belief that the Cowboys are going to turn it around in a bid to defend their NFC East title and bring the Super Bowl back to Dallas at last. Prescott was filmed saying “jump off if you want” — a message to Cowboys fans who want to “leave the bandwagon” and stop supporting the team in this moment.
Fan frustration with Prescott struck a familiar tone Sunday as the Cowboys fell behind by four scores in the fourth quarter and saw a late push for overtime come up short. Prescott’s final numbers look strong as he threw for 379 yards and two touchdowns, but those stats were inflated in a fourth quarter where Dallas outscored Baltimore 19-0 before losing anyway. Prescott threw the ball 51 times and struggled to connect with star wideout CeeDee Lamb, who caught four passes for 67 yards and no touchdowns.
Heading back out on the road for Thursday night’s matchup with the New York Giants could be the respite that Prescott, Lamb, and the Cowboys need to get back on track. In a strange way, escaping the wrath of Cowboys fans for a little while might be a boost as Dallas tries to pull even with the Philadelphia Eagles at this early stage of the year.
