D.L. Hughley wasted no time defending Vice President Kamala Harris after misinformed claims about her race were made by singer Janet Jackson.

In a new profile for The Guardian, the pop icon falsely alleged that Harris’ father, Donald J. Harris, is white, although he’s actually a Jamaican-American who was born in Saint Ann’s Bay.

Offended on Harris’ behalf was Hughley, who went after Jackson’s physical appearance in a series of X posts on Monday (September 23) after reading the singer’s comments.

“#JanetJacksons interview sounded like a #Trump rally!” Hughley began. “FYI!! It’s a little ironic to question whether someone is black while you’re breathing through the nose of a white woman!”

“#KamalaHarris looks the way she does cuz she has mom from India and a dad from Jamaica! #JanetJackson looks the way she does cuz she has a plastic surgeon! #TeamDl,” he continued.

The 61-year-old then referenced Jackson’s portrayal of Penny on the 1970s sitcom Good Times, specifically the scene when Penny’s abusive mother burned her with a steam iron.

“All I know is #Kamala looks like she did when she was in Oakland! But Janet don’t look like she did when she was Penny! What the hell was in that iron??,” Hughley concluded.

Reactions were mixed to his tirade, with some backing him, while others pointed out that he wasn’t originally a supporter of Harris, who’s currently running for President of the United States.

After The Guardian article was published, an apology from Mo Elmasri, who claimed to be Jackson’s manager, was issued. Just hours later, on Sunday evening (September 22), Elmasri claimed that Jackson and her older brother, Randy, fired him.
