Fans who miss seeing Blake Shelton on “The Voice” might not want to hold their breath waiting for the country star’s return. According to the “Voice” alum who starred on the show for over a decade, he has no plans to return…with one notable caveat.

Even with his wife, Gwen Stefani, returning to Season 26 as a coach alongside Snoop Dogg, Michael Bublé, and Reba McEntire, it looks like Shelton is more than okay with closing his chapter with the hit NBC series for good.

Blake Shelton’s Return to “The Voice” Is Unlikely

Country star and former coach on “The Voice,” Blake Shelton, spoke with Entertainment Tonight in April 2024 about whether he would consider returning to his old stomping grounds as a coach, and his answer was, well, definitive.

Admitting he doesn’t “miss the job at all,” Shelton explained, “I totally needed a break from that. If I wasn’t into it, then it wasn’t good for whoever was on my team. I don’t want to be somebody who’s just going through the motions. Those artists need somebody fighting for them.”

“The second I started feeling like, ‘Oh my gosh, I don’t even remember what season this is anymore. Who are the coaches on this season?’ [I knew that] I needed [to get] away from here.”

The Country Singer Does Miss Some Parts About The Show

Blake Shelton’s response about (not) returning to “The Voice” might seem a bit harsh for fans who ask for a Shelton comeback every year. But the country star wasn’t all negative. “I miss the people,” the singer told ET. “Those people became like family to me, literally from the crew all up to the producers of the show. I was with them more than I was with my family.”

Of course, with Gwen Stefani on the coaches’ panel, one could argue that Shelton could spend time with family and be on the show. But that doesn’t seem like something the country star wants to pursue right now. However, he did have one exception for how he would return to the show.

“If they were ever able to put together the original four coaches again,” Shelton said, referencing the lineup with him, Cee Lo Green, Christina Aguilera, and Adam Levine, “maybe [I’d return] for one season, a one-off. That would be fun for me. That would be something I would be interested in doing.”

With Adam Levine ready to return for the next season of “The Voice,” Season 27, we’re only two judges away from the OG reunion Shelton wants. Indeed, we might be two judges away from Shelton’s “Voice” fans’ dreams coming true. Still the likelihood of the gang getting back together feels slim to none.
