Technology billionaire Elon Musk believes that the 2024 election will be “America’s last election” if former President Donald Trump does not win.
“Few Americans realize that if Trump is not elected, this will be the last election. He is not a threat to democracy, but the only way to save it!”, billionaire Elon Musk commented on social network X on September 28.
The tech mogul’s announcement comes just over a month before the US election. Democratic presidential candidate and incumbent Vice President Kamala Harris has repeatedly called her Republican opponent, former President Donald Trump, a threat to democracy.
“Let me explain: If 1 in 20 illegal immigrants became a US citizen every year — which the Democrats are pushing as fast as they can — that would be about 2 million new legal voters in 4 years,” Musk said in response to a post that suggested 9 million illegal immigrants are eligible for citizenship under the current US administration’s policies.
“Furthermore, the Biden/Harris administration has been sending asylum seekers who are granted fast-track citizenship directly to swing states like Pennsylvania, Ohio, Wisconsin, and Arizona. This is how they are guaranteed to win every election,” he added.
Given that swing states often decide the outcome of US presidential elections by less than 20,000 votes, Musk suggested that if Democrats succeed in using immigration to motivate their voters, there would be no more swing states. At that point, he said, the only election would be the Democratic primary, similar to what happened in California in the late 1980s.
In recent months, billionaire Musk has repeatedly expressed his desire to lead a government commission in a potential Trump administration.
However, Mr. Trump has expressed skepticism about the billionaire becoming part of his administration, saying that the founder of SpaceX and Tesla would likely be too busy to serve in his cabinet. Instead, he has suggested that billionaire Musk could serve as an adviser in his administration if he wins the November election.
Illegal immigration and the situation at the border have become major contentious issues between Democrats and Republicans in the presidential election. Mr. Trump has criticized his Democratic opponents on immigration issues, condemning President Joe Biden’s restoration of immigration policies from the era of former President Barack Obama.
Polls show public frustration with Democrats after a surge of undocumented immigrants and homeless people in major cities overwhelmed social services under President Joe Biden. Democratic mayors have voiced concerns that their cities are struggling to cope with the influx.
Immigration policy remains a key issue in Mr Trump’s re-election campaign. He has pledged to complete construction of a wall along the entire border and launch the largest deportation drive in US history. Polls show a majority of Americans support restricting immigration.
Mr. Trump once declared that on his first day back in the Oval Office, he would “end all open border policies of the Joe Biden administration.”
