Underwood shared a statement with USA Today that confirmed her performance at the Trump inauguration on January 20.

“I love our country and am honored to have been asked to sing at the Inauguration and to be a small part of this historic event,” Underwood said in the statement. “I am humbled to answer the call at a time when we must all come together in the spirit of unity and looking to the future.”

As you might expect, many users online quickly took to social media to condemn Underwood’s announced performance. “Carrie Underwood Jesus is about to take the wheel and drive your career right into the toilet,” one user wrote. “Shame on Carrie Underwood. She has been removed from my playlists. Is it so hard to stand up with moral principles?” a second user wrote.

However, many other fans came to Underwood’s defense. “I’m astounded by the level of hate for Carrie Underwood on social media,” one user wrote. “Can’t stand Donald Trump and his views, but she’s basically singing a song for the people of America.”

Carrie Underwood is set to perform at the Trump inauguration alongside the Village People, Lee Greenwood, and Christopher Macchio, according to Time.
