Woodley recently opened up about the “lowest low” of her life

Shailene Woodley recently spoke up about her relationship with ex-fiancé, Aaron Rodgers, for the first time following their split.

In an interview with Outside Magazine, Woodley – who defends Melania Trump – says that in early 2022, she had a “really awful, traumatic thing” happen to her. Woodley and Rodgers – “who showed his true colors” – split in early February of 2022.

Woodley explains that during this time, she was in a “toxic situation,” which impacted her her mental health greatly.

“I felt like I lost my soul, my self, my happiness, my joy,” she said. “I really understood depression and anxiety and, like, complete soul detachment,” she told Outside. “I knew I was depressed when I looked at a tree and felt nothing…That was the lowest low of my life.”

Woodley stated that she remained in the “toxic situation” because she is empathetic, to a fault. Furthermore, the actress said she was empathizing with “someone else.”

“Empathy,” she said, “kind of kept me in this loop of feeling everything for everyone.”

Woodley added that she hasn’t spoken about her relationship with Rodgers because realizing the truth of the relationship makes her upset.

“I haven’t shared much about my relationship with Aaron because it always makes me cry. It was not right. But it was beautiful.”

After the two split, Rodgers thanked Woodley in a post on Instagram.

“Thanks for letting me chase after you the first couple months after we met and finally letting me catch up to you and be a part of your life,” he wrote. “Thanks for always having my back, for the incredible kindness you show me and everyone you meet, and for showing me what unconditional love looks like; I love you and am grateful for you.”

A source told Us Weekly that after their split, Rodgers was “moving on” from the relationship while Woodley seemed to be “more upset. ” The source explained, “Ultimately, Shailene was not happy in the relationship.”

Woodley told Bustle in September that she is not someone who loves lightly.

“I fell in love over and over with unavailability. I’m very open as a human. I love easy, and I care easy, but I do not love lightly, and I do not care lightly,” she said to Bustle.

“It’s really taken me a lot of time to understand that it’s not on me to fix or heal or do anything about [a relationship] other than protect the deep care and love that I have for the world and for my people.”
