When you don’t give up, life rewards you. Such has been the life of Deommodore Lenoir.
The 49ers CB recently signed a contract that would change not only his life but also his family’s. Growing up in a low-poverty area in South LA, the NFL was just a dream. Step by step, he ventured on his lifelong ambition. When he played in the Super Bowl LVIII, he knew he was destined to be great.
After signing a 5-year contract extension worth $92 million, Lenoir was on the Cloud 9. The Niners were ready to give him the deal. It’s just the amount of negotiations was getting stretched. Emotional after he found out his deal, he said, “I was happy when I heard my agent tell me the deal was finally done burst out in tears, you know, that I finally, be able to change my family’s life for generations. So it’s just a blessing.”
After a stellar last season, the Niners didn’t want to let Deommodore Lenoir go. In 17 games in 2023, he had 84 tackles (58 solo). He might improve his performance this year as he already has 53 tackles (33 solo) in 9 games.
The CB was happy after the deal and added, “I am happy we got something done. Just being able to play with, you know, all these great guys, I had no other option but to try to be great.” That’s right. Without the support of his teammates like Kyle Juszczyk and Jordan Mason, he wouldn’t be here. Not only did they teach him the tricks, but were also supportive of him.
How did ‘local hero’ Deommodore Lenoir come into the NFL?
“I have been a West Coast my whole life.” That’s right. The 49ers have given the South LA a whole new reason to celebrate. Being from the same area where the team is based, it’s just overwhelming. Growing up, the CB played football to stay focused and disciplined. Family and community supported him. His 20 siblings often played with him, but without a mentor, he was directionless.
Then came the coach, Devah Thomas. Together, they formed a combination that worked wonders. He gave simple instructions to the cornerback. Work hard and have faith in God. Before he chose the University of Oregon, he received more than 50 offers.
Being the first alumnus of Bishop Mora Salesian High School in Boyle Heights, who played in the Super Bowl, fans expect huge things from Deommodore Lenoir. It’s not just about playing anymore, the South LA neighborhood and the Faithful want a Trophy now. Can he do it this year? We’ll find out soon.
