Tom Kim went through a huge roller coaster at the 2024 Presidents Cup.

To begin with, he had a spat with his friend Scottie Scheffler in the opening round, as he left before his opponent could finish his putt. His behavior was termed as rude by the commentators. Right after he explained why he did so, during the second round, as he went against Xander Schauffele and Patrick Cantlay with Si Woo Kim, he heard people accusing them.

At the post-round presser, Tom Kim accused the members of Team USA of cursing at the International Team. Well, Schauffele did not leave it unnoticed and took the matter up in front of the media. Defending his team, he said, “I mean, I can speak for myself. I felt like Pat and I, treated the Kims with the utmost respect. We’re trying to quiet the crowds down when they were hitting. I have no clue if anyone was doing any of that. I don’t believe any of our guys would do something like that. So I’m not sure what he was hearing.” However, looks like all things have been forgotten, as Schauffele spoke about Kim on Sunday.

Xander Schauffele praises the Korean Players

After the final round of the 2024 Presidents Cup concluded, Xander Schauffele was asked about the four Korean players in the International team. They scored six points every tournament, and Schauffele has played with almost all of them. When asked what was so different about them, he said, “I have a lot of respect for everyone on that team, but the Koreans bring the heat, no doubt.” He started by saying that they have a lot of fire in them which helps the team.

Although they were in Canada, and a lot of the Canadian team members were being rooted by the spectators, players like Si Woo Kim, Tom Kim, Sungjae Im, and others stood out. “Then Tom and Si Woo together, I mean, those boys — this course might be, I don’t know, 7,000 yards, but those boys cover about 9,000 yards in a round of golf, at least the ones that I played against them,” added Schauffele.

He also said that he and Patrick Cantlay had to bring in some of their best game to beat them on Saturday. He believes their play is really good for golf. “As a competitor, I respect it. It’s not how I go about my business, but I respect it because that’s how they play.” Looks like things have been put behind already. It was not just Schauffele who spoke well of Tom Kim, but Kim too had a conversation with Schauffele after his statement.

Tom Kim apologized to Xander Schauffele

Tom Kim, after the Sunday round, went up to Xander Schauffele and Jim Furyk and addressed his comment. At the post-round presser, he said that he went up to them and said that he did not mean whatever he had said so negatively and apologized for it coming out wrongly. He had no intentions of taking a jibe at the players of the American team.

He also accepted that the misunderstanding was on his part, as he thought that instead of the spectators, the curses came from their team. “It was just I felt like what I heard yesterday, some comments that I’ve heard was at that time, just coming off the green, it came to me so personally and just I felt like it was right to share,” he said. At the presser, Kim also stated that he had never felt any bad sportsmanship with Patrick Cantlay or Schauffele, and things were resolved. What do you think about the whole incident?
