Some WWE couples are not able to make it down the aisle
WWE is a business, which means that no matter what the show will go on. Of course, over the years this has become a problem since a number of personal relationships have formed in the locker room that WWE has needed to make themselves aware of.
In recent years, the company has allowed relationships to happen between fellow superstars because shows like Total Divas seem to be pulling in a lot of viewers for the couples of the wrestling world, but it appears that there are only perks when a couple is still together.
Working together in a busy environment and spending more than 300 days a year on the road can become overwhelming for some couples, which is why all of these have decided to go their separate ways, but are still currently part of WWE and are often seen together on the same brand.
#5 Cathy Kelley and Finn Balor
Cathy Kelley and Finn Balor dated for a little over a year
Cathy Kelley has been one of WWE’s Social Media Analysts for the past few years and it appears that she garnered the attention of former Universal Champion Finn Balor when she started to work on the main roster. The couple were then spotted a number of events together and even turned up to the 2017 Hall of Fame as a couple, which is when the WWE Universe realized that their union was official.
Sean Waltman then later confirmed that the couple was together as part of his podcast, it is thought that they then split in the spring of 2018. Kelley has since been promoted and now works backstage as an interviewer as was as continuing her activities on WWE’s Social Media pages and their Youtube Channel, but it’s been made obvious that the couple has decided to go their separate ways.
Balor is now focused on being the Intercontinental Champion on WWE TV, whilst Kelley has been working on all three different WWE brands recently, most notably on NXT.
#4 Alexa Bliss and Buddy Murphy
Buddy Murphy and Alexa Bliss dated for more than four years
Alexa Bliss and Buddy Murphy started dating when the couple was working together alongside Wesley Blake in NXT. Bliss later helped the duo to win NXT Tag Team Championship gold before she was promoted to the main roster alone as part of the original WWE Draft back in 2016.
Murphy remained in NXT but his tag team with Blake evaporated before he was then kept off TV for more than a year as WWE struggled with ideas for the Australian star. Bliss went on to win countless Women’s Championships before Murphy resurfaced on 205 Live and became Cruiserweight Champion, but after their stint on Total Divas showed that neither star had any motivation to plan their wedding, it didn’t come as a shock that these two called off their engagement back in September.
Bliss and Murphy have remained good friends ever since and Bliss even congratulated Murphy on his recent call up to SmackDown Live.

#3 Charlotte Flair and Alberto Del Rio
The whole of 2016 was taken over by Paige and Del Rio’s relationship
Charlotte Flair and Alberto Del Rio reportedly started a relationship when he returned to WWE back in October 2015. The couple’s relationship was brief and he then moved on to a very public relationship with Charlotte’s friend Paige.
This became an entire saga between the two women but Charlotte was able to continue working for WWE throughout this time whilst Del Rio was also contracted to the company since he wasn’t released until the following year when he requested his contract be terminated.
Charlotte has since moved on to a relationship with fellow SmackDown superstar Andrade and judging by their pictures online they seem to be rather happy together. Del Rio recently made it clear that he wanted to return to WWE but it was made clear that this was no longer an option for the former World Champion.
#2 Dana Brooke and Dolph Ziggler
Dana Brooke and Dolph Ziggler split before 2017 but still work together
Dana Brooke and Dolph Ziggler met whilst Dana was working down in NXT and Ziggler was seemingly still finding time to work out at the Performance Center, it was thought that this was exactly what Ziggler needed following the breakdown of his relationship with Amy Schumer but this was a relationship that didn’t last very long either.
Dana Brooke was promoted to the main roster as an ally for Charlotte back in 2016 and it appears that this was when the couple opted to go their separate ways, Brooke has since moved on and was in a relationship with fellow bodybuilder Dallas McCarver until his passing back in 2017, whilst Ziggler has been focused on his career in the ring as well as his the tour that he is currently part of outside of the ring. Brooke and Ziggler have remained on the same brand over the past few years and have still been able to work together.
#1 John Cena and Mickie James
Mickie James and John Cena became a couple back in 2008
John Cena and Mickie James were in a relationship more than a decade ago back in 2008. At the time Mickie James was moved over to the SmackDown brand and later released from the company whilst John Cena remained with WWE whilst he later went through a very public divorce.
James has since moved on and married fellow wrestler Magnus, whom she met whilst working for Impact Wrestling and the couple have a son together. John Cena was engaged to Nikki Bella until recently when the couple decided to call their engagement off.
Mickie returned to WWE back in 2017 which is when she was able to talk openly about her relationship with John Cena and working alongside his new girlfriend Nikki Bella on SmackDown Live. The couple was also part of the same brand for a while before Cena later went on hiatus.
