The Canadiens are in an interesting position because, yes, Kent Hughes is active and looking to acquire either a second/third-line forward or a defenseman to stabilize things on the blue line.

At the same time, he’s looking for players who will fit into his lineup long-term; he’s not interested in short-term solutions.

On the other hand, they have assets that could serve as short-term solutions for teams aspiring to win the Stanley Cup.
