Kendrick Lamar was recently chosen to perform at the 2025 Super Bowl Halftime show in New Orleans.
This is the second time he has headlined the show since his last appearance there in 2022.
Meanwhile, Lil Wayne’s manager was rallying for him to headline the show in his hometown. However, the choice caused Lil Wayne to be snubbed, and his manager recently spoke out.
“Confused. Disappointed. Angry. But most of all. Inspired,” Lil Wayne’s manager, Fabian Marasciullo, wrote in an Instagram story. “Will never again be in a position or have the [GOAT] in a position where we are at the mercy of someone else’s decision. We will make the decisions.”
Many fans agreed with Marasciullo, sharing their thoughts on social media as well. “Ngl picking a Rapper to headline the biggest game in Wayne’s backyard is disrespectful…no matter who the rapper is,” one fan wrote. Another commented, “Wayne has been robbed.”
Still, some fans noted that the Halftime show performer isn’t chosen based on their hometown. “Wayne shouldn’t be doing the Super Bowl just because it’s in New Orleans. That’s not how it works,” one person wrote. They continued, “Wayne as a special guest would be nice but he should not headline the Halftime show just because it’s his hometown.”
Fans Split About Lil Wayne New Orleans Super Bowl Snub
Other fans shared their thoughts about the Halftime show choice. “This has nothing to do with location. It’s about timing. We wanna see Kendrick at the Super Bowl whether it’s NY, Texas, Miami, don’t matter. Wayne deserves this spot as well but it’s timing. This time is meant for Kendrick, Wayne knows this,” one fan wrote.
Many expressed a similar sentiment, as this has been one of the biggest years for Kendrick Lamar since his album DAMN. won the Pulitzer Prize in 2018. His feud with Drake was widely reported, and produced the diss track “Not Like Us,” which skyrocketed on the charts. The overall sentiment from fans is that this is Lamar’s year.
Roc Nation, Apple Music, and the NFL announced the Halftime show performer on Sunday, September 8. In a statement from Roc Nation, founder Jay-Z said that Kendrick Lamar is “truly a once-in-a-generation artist and performer. His deep love for hip-hop and culture informs his artistic vision. He has an unparalleled ability to define and influence culture globally. Kendrick’s work transcends music, and his impact will be felt for years to come.”
