Stephanie White credits Caitlin Clark and others for the WNBA’s growth

Caitlin Clark’s effect on the league has been one of the most talked about topics in the WNBA since she arrived on the scene.

Some have credited Clark with helping the league increase viewership and attract fans into the arena. However, some have also opined that the much-hyped-up 2024 WNBA season was a natural progression of the league.

The Connecticut Sun faced the Indiana Fever in the first round of the 2024 WNBA playoffs. Before the series started, Stephanie White was asked about the impact of Caitlin Clark on the league.

White said that Clark and the new players have huge fan following since their college days and they have managed to carry it to the WNBA.

“The influx of talent and star power from the college level – Caitlin Clark, Angel Reese, Cameron Brink – all of these players … have engaged with these fans from a social media perspective,” White said. “That just carries over because there’s a great following for all of these stars that are coming into our league.”

Stephanie White coached the Sun for only two seasons. She led her team to a 27-13 record in 2023, the franchise’s best. She won both WNBA Coach of the Year and Associated Press Coach of the Year in 2023. In 2024, the Sun finished third with a 28-12 record.
