Who Is Andy Reid’s Wife? All About Tammy Reid, the Powerhouse Behind the Big Red

I have the ultimate trust in Andrew as a coach.” These words from Kansas City Chiefs’s HC Andy Reid’s wife, Tammy, reflect the deep sentiments of their relationship. The love story of one of the NFL’s most inspiring couples is as beautiful as Andy’s successful trajectory in the league. Despite facing many ups and downs since exchanging vows on August 8, 1981, Tammy has always been there to support him. “My whole philosophy and my whole motto in life since I’ve been married is: Live where you’re planted,” Tammy Reid shared during an interview with The Times Herald.

The high-profile NFL wife previously revealed the challenges of being a coach’s spouse, describing how she had to relocate to eight different states with their five children.  That was not easy, but mutual understanding and strong fellowship propelled them forward with an optimistic mindset. “Andrew has transplanted me to eight different states now; I’ve had five kids in five states. You have to be positive and just jump into the community.”

Over time, Tammy gradually accepted the behind-the-scenes reality of the bright life of coaches. Interestingly, she’s grateful to be at his side despite it all. Born on Nov. 6, 1959, in New York, Tammy has been greatly influenced by her parents.

The Memphis, Tennessee native, who later settled in Arizona, where she completed her high school studies, disclosed the impact of her parents. She stated that her mother and father provided an excellent example of the person she aspired to be and were constantly engaged in the community.

According to a report by People, Tammy was inspired by her parents’ work ethic, which helped her face every obstacle in life. “My parents are the greatest examples of service that I’ve ever met in my whole life. There was hardly a day that went by when my mom or dad wasn’t helping someone: driving someone somewhere, fixing something, taking a meal, or baking something,” she said.

Just like her parents, Andy Reid’s wife also contributes to charity to give back to the community. She particularly works for individuals who have experienced domestic violence through the charity organization Laurel House. She was involved in philanthropic work when her NFL husband was working with the Eagles as head coach.

Through her charity work, she realized her overwhelming love for her husband, believing she is lucky. As she once disclosed to People, “I knew that Laurel House was something I could pour my heart into because I am married to one of the greatest men in the world.” With their shared understanding and interests, Tammy and Andy continued to cherish each other’s company. And, this companionship started way back during their college years, growing stronger each day.

From College Sweethearts to NFL Power Couple

After finishing her high school education, Tammy attended Brigham Young University, where she would meet her future NFL mate. Yes, it was the place where Mr. and Mrs. Reid’s inspiring journey began.

Andy and Tammy are college sweethearts, and their love story is nothing short of a touchdown by an NFL player. “I wanted him to ask me out, but he wouldn’t, so I finally goaded him into asking me out, and we played racquetball for our first date,” Tammy once disclosed to People.

Since then, this dynamic NFL duo has maintained their romance, and they have now been husband and wife for over 42 years—a truly amazing journey. One interesting thing about the couple is a testament to Andy’s unconditional love for his beloved wife: Before tying the knot, Andy converted to Tammy’s religion, Mormonism, on the advice of her father.

Even if Andy’s team doesn’t clinch a major triumph, he always has his biggest supporter, Tammy, by his side. Andy says that he still refers to Tammy as his girlfriend and makes an effort to do special things for her on a regular basis.

“Every day is a special day, I’m telling ya. I call her my girlfriend for that reason. You never lose interest if you do that, right, you guys out there? Call them your girlfriend, and you always do special things for them,” the Kansas City Chiefs coach revealed after notching the Super Bowl with the Chiefs in 2020.

Undoubtedly, Tammy has been Andy’s biggest cheerleader throughout his professional coaching career, from his time with the Green Bay Packers in 1992 to his current position as Chiefs head coach.

After Andy’s team clinched the third Vince Lombardi Trophy in 2024 against the San Francisco 49ers, Andy’s humorous statement about raising five kids with his forever ‘girlfriend’ and soulmate went viral: “I joke about her — she had five kids, and it completely ruined my body; I’m not sure what happened.

After over four decades and five kids, the couple believes they’re still as in love as ever.
