It looks like the WNBA has a favorite among the multiple nicknames that Chicago Sky star Angel Reese has earned throughout the 2024 season.
Since Reese entered the WNBA as the seventh overall pick of the 2024 draft and made her mark in the league, she has been given a plethora of nicknames. The most popular one is “Chi-Barbie,” which was inspired by her “Bayou Barbie” moniker.
She has also been called “League Barbie,” “Walking Double-Doubles” and “Double-Double Barbie,” to name a few.
Now, in a WNBA post while celebrating the 2024 rookies, not only did it highlight Reese’s historic year. The league also seemed to approve one of her more popular nicknames.
“The Double-Double Barbie dominated year one,” the WNBA wrote on Instagram along with a highlight reel of Reese.
The caption also detailed the dominant year that the Sky forward had, including her historic double-double streak of 15 games that set the record for the most consecutive double-doubles in WNBA history.
Reese, who averaged 13.6 points and 13.1 rebounds on the season, also made the All-Star team as a rookie and even recorded a double-double (12 points and 11 rebounds) in the game—becoming the only first-year player to do so in the event.
Angel Reese definitely earned the “Double-Double Barbie” nickname. Of course, it remains to be seen if she can maintain that average moving forward, but with what she has shown in just her first year, there’s no reason to doubt what she’s capable of.
