Social media wanted to know the “dark magic spell” the Atlanta Falcons used to win the coin toss against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers near the end of their ‘Thursday Night Football’ showdown.
The Falcons came out on top of what was probably the most entertaining ‘TNF’ fixture of the season, sending the game into overtime with a clutch drive even after a glaring dropped catch, a blocked field goal attempt, and a late interception.
The Bucs’ defense failed to stop them from getting into the end zone after they won the coin toss, which meant they wouldn’t get a chance to make a drive of their own, per NFL rules.
The team that opts to take the ball after winning a coin toss usually has the advantage in the regular season, as they only need to put a scoring drive together to win a game in overtime. Playoff rules differ in that both teams get a chance on offense.
We can’t overstate the importance of a coin toss during the regular season.
Did The Atlanta Falcons Bend Things To Their Will?
Thursday’s toss presented a curious scene, and social media wanted to know how the Falcons won it.
“Same sided coin rigged by the NFL,” someone suggested.
“Need this at the slot machine this weekend,” another added.
Kirk Cousins and the Falcons appear to be the NFL’s clutch Kings this season following late wins over the Philadelphia Eagles and Bucs. They’re not to be taken lightly nearing the end of a fourth quarter.
