Former Strictly Come Dancing star Oti Mabuse has been tipped to appear in the next series of I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! She was also recently spotted at rehearsals for the upcoming Strictly show, but it’s thought she was lending her choreography skills rather than planning a permanent return.
But this all comes after a tough year for the professional dancer, which included health scares for both her and her newborn daughter. Speaking to The Sun earlier this year, the 34-year-old revealed how she was diagnosed sepsis following the birth of her first child.
Oti, who has won Strictly twice, experienced a 16-hour labour with her daughter, who arrived two months early at the end of last year. Her baby spent the next six weeks in neonatal intensive care at University College London Hospital after being born with an infection.
Oti herself was battling sepsis, a life-threatening condition that occurs when the body’s immune system overreacts to an infection, damaging the body’s own tissues and organs. Luckily both mother and baby went on to make a full recovery.
She explained how she felt in “safe hands” thanks to NHS staff. “My sepsis was discovered after the birth — it’s not something that was missed, so I just want to make that clear, as I’d read it misinterpreted like that a while ago,” Oti, who is from South Africa, told The Sun.
“My daughter had an infection when she came out and the doctors gave her treatment. I didn’t have time to panic — we were just focused on her being better.
“I always felt she was in safe hands. It was about treating her the best way we could. She had to learn to breathe on her own properly, eat on her own, and that came with time.”
According to the NHS, anyone with an infection can get sepsis. But some people are more likely to get an infection that could lead to sepsis, including premature babies or women who have just given birth, had a miscarriage or had an abortion.
Oti Mabuse’s resilience and strength have been truly inspiring in the face of such challenging circumstances. Despite experiencing a health scare with sepsis after giving birth to her premature daughter, she remained positive and focused on her daughter’s recovery.
Her story serves as a reminder of the importance of timely medical intervention and the incredible work done by NHS staff in caring for both mother and baby.
It’s no wonder that Oti Mabuse has been such a beloved figure on Strictly Come Dancing, with her impressive choreography skills and infectious energy.
Her potential appearance on I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! would surely captivate audiences once again, as she takes on a new challenge outside of the dance world.
As we continue to follow Oti’s journey, it’s essential to recognize the risk of sepsis for anyone with an infection, especially for vulnerable populations like premature babies and new mothers.
Being aware of the symptoms and seeking prompt medical attention can make a significant difference in the outcome.
Let’s show our support for Oti Mabuse and all those who have bravely faced health challenges, and let their stories inspire us to stay informed and prioritize our health and well-being.
Stay tuned for more updates and valuable information to empower you on your own health journey.
