Gwen Stefani Sings Impromptu No Doubt Duet on ‘The Voice’, Fans Shocked Contestant Is Still Sent Packing
The Voice kicked off its 26th season last week with an almost entirely new coaching lineup, and fans are already falling for newcomer coach Snoop Dogg. Veteran coach Gwen Stefani has also returned to her big red chair after sitting out season 25. The former No Doubt frontwoman recently won fans’ hearts when she shared the stage with one season 26 hopeful for a duet of one of her biggest hits. However, many fans were baffled when no chairs turned for the woman.
Gwen Stefani Performs ‘Just A Girl’ With ‘The Voice’ Hopeful
Dozens of contestants auditioned for season 26 of The Voice. However, only one can walk away with the recording contract and $100,000 grand prize.
Crystalla Gonzalez already has somewhat of a presence in the music industry. The New York City-based artist is one half of the “rock, punk, blues, and funk” duo No Grudges. Deciding to try her luck on The Voice, Gonzalez performed Pat Benatar’s “Heartbreaker” during Monday’s (Sept. 30) Blind Auditions episode.
The New Yorker made quite a few new fans on social media. One X/Twitter user, Robert Anton, praised Gonzalez for “working the stage.”
However, none of the four coaches—Michael Buble, Snoop Dogg, Reba McEntire or Gwen Stefani—turned their chairs for Gonzalez. This brings her time on The Voice to an end—but not before she got to share the stage with Gwen Stefani.
The “Hollaback Girl” singer joined Gonzalez for a stunning duet of No Doubt’s “Just A Girl,” a gesture that earned her much praise on social media. “Very cool of Gwen, that made her night,” one fan wrote.
‘The Voice’ Fans Call For the Return of Crystalla Gonzalez
While fans loved seeing Gwen Stefani perform with The Voice hopeful, many were disappointed that the “Spiderwebs” singer didn’t turn her chair. “Aww we wanted to see Crystalla on Team Gwen,” the entertainment site Monsters & Critics wrote on X/Twitter.
Another viewer added, “Girl can wail, but she’s not on the beat OR the key… so she just needs to slow down and BREATHE. I love that Gwen Stefani got up there and sang with her. She needs a bit more polish & she’ll be golden. Hope she comes back!”
