Since breaking into the music industry during the 1980s, Mariah Carey produced a prosperous career for herself thanks to hit songs like “Without You”, “It’s a Wrap”, and “We Belong Together.” Looking at the numbers, the singer won numerous awards and even gained entry into the Songwriters Hall of Fame. She also sold over 220 million albums. While continuing to expand her career in music, it seems the star is somewhat perplexed as to why she wasn’t inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. And to make it worse, Carey’s lawyer landed a spot in the Rock Hall years ago.

During the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony, fans watched as stars like Foreigner, Cher, Peter Frampton, and Ozzy Osbourne were welcomed as members of the 2024 class. Speaking with the L.A. Times, Carey explained how she heard this was her year. When asked for her thoughts on the matter, she insisted, “My thoughts are, I didn’t get in.” She continued, “Everybody was calling me, going, ‘I think you’re getting in!’ and so I was excited about it. But then it didn’t happen. My lawyer got into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame before me.”

Carey’s lawyer isn’t just some suit sitting in an office, she is represented by Allen Grubman. Throughout the years, Grubman worked with Elton John, U2, Bruce Springsteen, and even John Mellencamp, who inducted him. It also helped that Grubman was a co-founder of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Mariah Carey Admits “This Is Not Fun” When Speaking About Grammys

Outside of not landing in the Rock Hall, Carey also discussed her confusion surrounding the Grammy Awards. “They gave me two Grammys when I first started out. Then one year – huge year for me, career-wise – I had like six nominations with the Daydream album, and ‘One Sweet Day’ and ‘Always Be My Baby’ and ‘Fantasy.’ All those songs in a row ended up being so big that you just thought, OK, at least ‘One Sweet Day’ is gonna win best duet or something. Then I sat there the whole time and I didn’t get anything.”

Not mixing her words, Carey concluded, “I was like, ‘This is not fun. But what can I do? Be a sore loser and say, F the Grammys?’”
