ATLANTA, Georgia — The estranged wife Zac Brown, one of country music’s most popular stars, says in a post on social media that Brown asked her for a divorce just days after they held a wedding party.

The post from Kelly Yazdi comes just months after Brown filed a lawsuit seeking a restraining order and demanding that Yazdi take down an Instagram post he argued was about him and broke a confidentiality agreement.

But Yazdi says in the Tik Tok post she wanted to give an update on her side of the story despite being “afraid to publish anything” because of legal concerns. She describes the ongoing divorce as a “very painful experience,” saying the couple were “happily together for years” before their split.

“We held our private wedding party in Nashville last November with our family and friends, and nine days after our wedding party, Zac unexpectedly told me over Zoom that he wanted a divorce,” Yazdi says in the post. The couple were married in August.

“After he told me that he wanted a divorce, I refused to sign a non-disclosure agreement that would have broadly prohibited me from ever talking about my life or relationship with Zac for the rest of my life,” she says. “And after I refused to sign that lifetime NDA, that is when Zac filed for divorce back in January and then a couple of weeks later, I was fired from my position as executive vice president of his company.”

She accuses Brown of using “altered” video from the wedding party without her consent for “commercial gain” and to “demean my integrity.” She also says Brown sued her because of a poem she published and sought to prevent her from publishing more poems.

Yazdi says she has sued Brown for using parts of the wedding party video in Brown’s music video for “Beautiful Drug.” She says the music video also has a model that resembles her shown engaging in “risky behavior,” such as drug use.

“I was so devastated to see my private wedding video edited to portray me in a false light,” she said.

Yazdi says she will “continue to stand up for myself” during the publicly contentious split with her husband.

Brown reportedly has not responded to Yazdi’s post. The frontman for the Zac Brown Band, he has won three Grammy awards. The band has made touring a focus since 2012, performing in shows across North America every year, Billboard said. Twenty-two of the band’s songs have reached Billboard’s Hot 100 chart.
