Buffalo Bills head coach Sean McDermott back in June told reporters that what he liked about the 2024 team was how unselfish they were. His comments felt like a parting shot to Stefon Diggs, who the Bills traded to the Houston Texans in April.

During the first quarter of the Bills’ 47-10 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars on Monday night, McDermott benched Keon Coleman, the wide receiver they selected with the No. 33 pick in this year’s draft to help replace the void on offense after trading Diggs.

The reason was for selfish conduct from the first-year player.

Per Matt Parrino with Syracuse.com, McDermott said he sidelined Coleman due to an issue with being on time.

McDermott was happy with the way Coleman performed on Monday night when he was put in after the first quarter.

“I’m very impressed with how Keon handled it and then to go out there and catch the touchdown pass,” McDermott said, per Parrino. “I know how important his teammates are to him and this will be a learning opportunity for him.”

Coleman’s one reception of the game came on a 24-yard touchdown pass. Coleman now has two touchdown receptions in three games. He has four receptions for 51 yards on the season.
