In a disgusting yet not shocking display, a cyclist spat on and verbally accosted Edmonton Oilers forward Evander Kane near his vehicle in Alberta.

Evander Kane is among the most polarizing active NHLers, having become the center of several controversies. However, his most recent public issue was an atrocious act against him. In a recent Instagram story, Evander Kane shared a video of an unidentified white man with a bicycle near his vehicle.

The Oilers forward alleged that the stranger spat on his vehicle while passing by. When he and a friend of his in a truck confronted the fellow, he slew offensive verbal attacks toward the pair while denying their claims. Evander Kane expressed the scenario and his disappointment in a caption on the video.

“This cyclist was riding his bike past my vehicle and decided to spit on it as he rode by. I then confronted him as he tried to deny the claim. Luckily, a friend of mine who was driving in the area pulled over to intervene in our conversation. This gentleman then proceeded to tell my friend and me, and I quote, ‘You people don’t belong here.’ It’s incredibly disappointing that there are still people like this today.”

Evander Kane had a high temper when he spoke back to the stranger, trying to get him to repeat what he said. The man in the truck, who appears to be his friend Karl Mullins, took a different approach. The man expressed to the accused that he owned much of the land in the area, adding at the end that the cyclist’s statement was immoral.

“I own a lot of property in the area, I mean, I’m just trying to bring peace, and that’s not a good statement you made.”

After his last appearance with the NHL in Game 2 of the Stanley Cup Finals against the Florida Panthers, Evander Kane has been healing from a sports hernia and is unlikely to be available to the Edmonton Oilers at the start of the upcoming season. Despite the troubles he occasionally causes hockey fans, he should not be subject to racist verbal attacks.
