Montreal Canadiens fans will be keeping a close eye on today’s announcement at 2 PM regarding NHL waivers.

Yesterday afternoon, the Detroit Red Wings placed veteran goaltender Jack Campbell on waivers. He was the 11th overall pick (1st round) in the 2010 draft.

Campbell, 32 years old, boasts a career save percentage of 0.909 in the NHL, a 2.76 goals-against average, and a record of 93 wins, 52 losses, and 18 overtime losses.

He earns just $775,000 per year and was an All-Star goaltender with the Maple Leafs in 2022.

Jack Campbell on waivers: Will the Montreal Canadiens claim him?

We’ll have the answer at 2 PM today:

We’re talking about a goaltender who found considerable success in Toronto, a market as intense as Montreal, but who has struggled since.

Would he be a better option than young Cayden Primeau?

Let’s not forget that since Primeau’s terrible game against the Buffalo Sabres, Martin St-Louis has been consistently putting Samuel Montembeault back in net, but obviously, «Monty» won’t be able to play every game until the end of the season.

What should be done then?

«Jack Campbell’s stats aren’t so bad after all:

Record of 17-3-2, goals-against average of 2.15, and a save percentage of .921 (20-21)

Record of 31-9-6, goals-against average of 2.62, and a save percentage of .914 (21-22)

Record of 21-9-4, goals-against average of 3.41, and a save percentage of .888 (22-23)»

Samuel Montembeault will indeed be back between the pipes tonight against the Edmonton Oilers.
