After losing a close battle against the Dallas Mavericks on Tuesday, the Memphis Grizzlies bounced back to winning ways with a 115-110 win over the Sacramento Kings on Thursday. However, things were not as pleasant for Grizzlies star guard Ja Morant, as he was ejected in the fourth quarter of the game.
Morant received his first technical foul when around eight minutes were remaining in the game. The two-time NBA All-Star received his second tech in the next minute after fouling Kings star DeMar DeRozan. The Grizzlies star’s reaction to the foul call on DeRozan led to his second technical foul, and eventually, Morant was ejected from the game.
Before his ejection, Morant played 28 minutes against the Kings, registering eight points, seven assists, and three rebounds. Marcus Smart and Desmond Bane tied for the most points for Memphis with 18 points a piece. On the other hand, DeRozan led the Kings with 26 points, followed by Malik Monk’s 23-point game.
NBA Breaks Silence On Ja Morant’s Technical Fouls
After the game, the NBA released a Pool Report on Ja Morant’s ejection. The report mentioned that Morant used profanity towards an official during an out-of-bounds play and was assessed his first tech. Later, while trying to guard DeRozan, Morant appeared to bump the Kings star and was called for a foul.
Morant expressed his frustration with the foul call on the court. The NBA report also mentioned that the Grizzlies guard was in a “legal guarding position” and “should not have been called for a foul.” While going toward the bench, he pointed multiple times at the officials and used profanity, leading to his second technical foul.

Earlier, Grizzlies head coach Taylor Jenkins fumed over the Dallas Mavericks’ free-throw advantage in the final quarter. Dallas attempted 26 free shots in the fourth quarter alone, compared to just three for Memphis. The Grizzlies are placed joint-third in the Western Conference as they have an identical 15-8 record with the Mavericks.
