The Denver Nuggets staged a remarkable comeback to defeat the Golden State Warriors 119-115 on Tuesday night. A late-game surge saw the Nuggets outscore the Warriors by 15 points in the final six minutes. Despite the loss, Steve Kerr’s side managed to finish the NBA Cup group stage as West Group C toppers.
The win improves Denver’s record to 11-8, placing them eighth in the Western Conference standings. Meanwhile, the Warriors suffered their fifth consecutive loss, dropping to 12-8 and falling to sixth in the Western Conference.
This game also extended the Warriors’ losing streak against the Nuggets to eight games. Golden State’s last win came against the New Orleans Pelicans on November 23, where they managed a narrow 112-108 victory.
Nikola Jokic’s Historic Performance Led The Denver Nuggets To Beat Stephen Curry’s Team
Nikola Jokic delivered an extraordinary performance against the Warriors, finishing with 38 points, 10 rebounds, six assists, and five steals. This marks the third time Jokic has achieved a stat line of 35/10/5/5. It tied him with NBA legends Larry Bird and James Harden for the most such games in league history.
Jokic wasn’t the only Nugget to step up. Aaron Gordon contributed 15 points, nine rebounds, and five assists, while Michael Porter Jr. added 22 points and 7 rebounds. Jamal Murray played a vital role with 12 points and 7 assists, and Christian Braun added 11 points and 6 assists in the win.
The Warriors, despite their best efforts, couldn’t hold off the Nuggets’ late push. Nevertheless, Stephen Curry once again showcased why he’s the heart and soul of the Warriors, finishing with 24 points, 11 assists, and seven rebounds.
