The Cleveland Cavaliers continued their dominant run in the NBA this season and marked their 20th victory on Thursday. Donovan Mitchell-led Cavs dominated Nikola Jokic’s Nuggets 126-114 at the Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse, marking their third win in a row. Despite the loss, three-time NBA MVP Jokic created history with his triple-double.
With the win, Cleveland improved their season record to 20-3 and are comfortably sitting at the top of the Eastern Conference standings. On the other hand, Denver lost their ninth game to manage an 11-9 record and are placed eighth in the Western Conference standings.
Cleveland Cavaliers’ Team Effort Overshadows Nikola Jokic’s Historic Night
Nikola Jokic continued to be phenomenal for the Denver Nuggets this season as he recorded his 139th career triple-double on Thursday. The Serbian center registered 27 points, 20 rebounds, and 11 assists to surpass legendary Magic Johnson in the all-time triple-double leaders list. The Nuggets star is now only behind teammate Russell Westbrook (200) and Oscar Robertson (181).
Donovan Mitchell led the Cavaliers in scoring with 28 points, shooting 6-off-10 from beyond the arc. Darius Garland scored 24 points for the Cavs. However, Caris LeVert and Evan Mobley’s efficient outing helped Cleveland edge out Denver.
LeVert registered 21 points, six assists, three rebounds, and a steal while shooting 63.6% FG and 83.3% from the three. Mobley was also sensational as he recorded 20 points on 63.6% shooting from the field and 3-off-5 from the three-point line. The Cavs forward also grabbed nine rebounds and made four assists and three steals in the win.
