Richard Madeley revealed why he often sleeps in a different room to his wife Judy Finnigan.

The presenter, 68, became a national favourite alongside Judy back in the late 80s when they presented ITV’s This Morning together.

Judy chose to take a step back from the limelight nearly ten years ago after her stint on Loose Women concluded, with Richard admitting she is “really enjoying” her decision to wind down.

Meanwhile, the I’m A Celebrity star has been sharing presenting responsibilities with Susanna Reid on Good Morning Britain. With the show airing at 6am, it means the cast are forced to wake up in the middle of the night.

To avoid disturbing Judys slumber, Richard has chosen to sleep separately on the days he works. He opened up about their sleeping habits on Kate Thorntons podcast, White Wine Question Time.

”’When I’m doing Good Morning Britain I sleep in the spare room. I do probably sleep a little bit better in bed with Judy but I’m okay on my own,” Richard said.

Pondering the notion of disrupting Judy’s precious rest, he quipped: “I wouldn’t think of doing that to Judy. Apart from anything else, Judy and her sleep, you do not mess with.”

Fellow morning presenter Amol Rajan, was mentioned by Kate as someone who claims to “sleep better” with his spouse, despite their merry band of four youngsters under seven, which dictates early mornings for them both when he’s at the helm of the Today show.

Richard noted with a hint of admiration: “Amol Rajan’s wife must be a saint.”

He then recalled his own experience, saying: “We did This Morning, but the difference between me and Amol there is that Judy and I would get up at the same time.”

Reflecting on their shared routine, Richard added: “The alarm would go off, we’d both get up and roll into our jeans, get in the car, and drive to Liverpool to do the show, and then when we were in London, drive down to the Southbank. So we went to bed at the same time and woke up at the same time.”

The television duo first crossed paths back in the ’80s while working on separate shows for Granada TV. Richard recounted a tale about Judy, revealing: “I heard she was ‘dicing [an executive] into small cubes with her tongue’ after he said ‘something sexist’.”

During an interview with the Guardian in 2014, Richard fondly recollected: “I thought, wow I’m going to marry her.”

The couple tied the knot in 1986 and have since welcomed two children into their family. Alongside her children with Richard, Judy has two children from a previous marriage.
