Fans did not hesitate to take sides in the growing controversy unleashed by the pop star.

Robert Griffin III has stirred up the Taylor Swift-NFL controversy
Robert Griffin III, former NFL quarterback and recently fired ESPN analyst, has taken to social media to question the NFL’s sudden obsession withTaylor Swift, sparking a wave of heated responses. As Swift’s relationship with Kansas City Chiefs star tight end Travis Kelce goes public, her frequent appearances at NFL games have skyrocketed viewership-and controversy.
On Sunday, cameras were glued to Swift, showing her every move at Arrowhead Stadium as the Chiefs secured a thrilling win. After the game, Griffin posted a video of Swift celebrating the victory and posed a simple but divisive question to his followers: “Dear Football fans and Swifties, this is a safe space. Why does this bother so many people?”
Haters and Swifties clashed under RGIII’s post
The responses poured in. Many fans voiced their frustration with the NFL’s Taylor-centric coverage: “Do they show any other players’ girlfriends this often? No. Plus we are sick of hearing about her,” said one, with someone else commenting, “I’m a Taylor fan, but it feels fake and possibly even staged.”
However, not everyone was against the pop icon. “I’m a Bills fan, and this doesn’t bother me one bit. God forbid a woman cheers on the man she loves,” and “Let’s just be happy for other people’s happiness,” were some of the responses suporting the songstress.
RGIII is a Swiftie himself
Griffin, who has repeatedly expressed admiration for Swift, believes her presence in the NFL is mutually beneficial. On X (formerly Twitter), he even suggested Swift should grace the cover of the next Madden video game, predicting it would be the best-seller of all time.
Swift’s NFL appearances, including her infamous beer-chugging moment on the jumbotron, have also added to the discussion. Griffin remarked, “Chugging a beer on the jumbotron isn’t what you expect from the woman who sings ‘Sweeter than Fiction,’ but it’s humanizing her.”
Love her or hate her, Taylor Swift’s presence at NFL games continues to leave fans divided, and as RGIII pointed out, it’s a conversation that isn’t going away anytime soon.
