REPORT: NFC Team Predicted To Pull Off Blockbuster Trade For New Orleans Saints QB Derek Carr

One of the New Orleans Saints’ NFC Rivals may reportedly consider a blockbuster trade for veteran quarterback Derek Carr.
The soon-to-be 34-year-old Derek Carr has two years left on the $150 million deal he signed with New Orleans in 2023 free agency. Injuries and inconsistent production have hampered Carr’s tenure in the Big Easy, as he’s just 14-13-0 with 40 touchdowns and 13 interceptions in 27 games.
With a rebuild long overdue in New Orleans, GM Mickey Loomis would probably love to get out of Carr’s contract and start over at quarterback. It’s clear that the ex-Las Vegas Raider isn’t capable of taking this team back to the playoffs, at least as currently constructed.
According to a report from ESPN’s Jordan Raanan, the quarterback-needy New York Giants could explore a possible trade for Derek Carr in the offseason:
“The trade avenue could also be an option. The future of Derek Carr in New Orleans is one that could come into question. Nothing should be ruled out.”
In his first season with the Saints, Carr completed 68.8 percent of pass attempts for 3,878 yards, 25 touchdowns and only eight interceptions. Limited to 10 games in 2024, Carr had 2,145 passing yards and 15 touchdowns against five interceptions.
The Giants released starter Daniel Jones late in the regular season, with two years remaining on his $160 million deal. Drew Lock finished out the year as the starting QB, but the G-Men will obviously need to upgrade at the position if they want to compete in 2025.
Derek Carr Could Use A Fresh Start
It’s not Carr’s fault that things haven’t gone well in New Orleans. The team waited too long to fire head coach Dennis Allen, and Loomis didn’t exactly put the best set of playmakers around Carr.
The veteran QB is still an above-average starter, but it’s clear that New Orleans is too far away from realistically competing for a playoff spot. Carr would be better off finishing out the remainder of his starting days on another team, even if it means being a bridge QB for a club like the Giants.
