Pressure Mounts for NFL Team to Dismiss Head Coach Despite Win on Sunday

Eagles' Nick Sirianni defends controversial decision that backfired: 'I am even more convicted' - nj.com

One of the NFL’s best teams is under pressure to dismiss their head coach despite their victory on Sunday.

Coming off a brutal upset loss to the Atlanta Falcons, the Philadelphia Eagles had a lot to prove coming into their game against the New Orleans Saints. The Eagles had two primary concerns leaving their previous game, with one being their defense, and the other being their play calling.

Going into Week 3, the Eagles were allowing the most yards per carry by any team in the league with 7.8, which was a huge concern as they were set to play one of the league’s best backs in Alvin Kamara. The Saints were also the No. 1 offense coming into the game, averaging 45.5 points per game through the first two weeks. That said, their defense would turn out to be their strong suit, holding New Orleans to just 12 points.

However, despite the win, play calling was still a huge issue for Philadelphia. Not only were a lot of their play calls and designs early not great, but head coach Nick Sirianni’s decision to go for it on fourth down three times in the game was very costly.

The Eagles had to win it with less than two minutes remaining, entering their game-winning drive down 12-7. Had Sirianni taken the two easy field goals, Philadelphia wouldn’t have been in that position to begin with. This has led a lot of fans to question if he should be fired, as it was very difficult to watch for Eagles fans.

Though it’s only three weeks into the season, these decisions came after a similar missed-opportunity against Atlanta, which eventually costed them the game. Due to this pattern of poor decision-making, a lot fans have made up their minds on Twitter or “X”.

“Nick Sirianni still needs to be fired,” one fans said, with another adding, “Nick Sirianni HAS to be fired tonight.”

A particularly harsh fan said, “Nick Sirianni with one of the finest efforts in NFL history today to try and get fired before making it to the locker room post game.”

One fan even added that “Nick Sirianni should have been fired last year.”

Despite pulling out an exciting victory in New Orleans, it’s clear that the fans want Sirianni gone. He’s a coach that has brought them to a Super Bowl, seeing a plethora of playoff success, but the Eagles are in a funk that they can’t seem to shake.

This could easily be partly on Sirianni as they don’t appear to be well-coached by any means. If the Eagles want a real shot at winning the championship this year, they’re going to have to turn things around. Hopefully for Sirianni’s sake that they can do so without having to fire him.
