Novak Djokovic reveals one of the most special wins of his career

Novak Djokovic has broken almost all men’s tennis records and for many he deserves to be considered as the best ever. The 24-time Grand Slam champion remained motivated even after everything a player could dream of and showed the world what it means to make history.

While he hasn’t received the same love that Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal had, there’s no denying that Nole is one of the greatest athletes of all time. His numbers are truly impressive, as is his consistency at the highest levels.

Novak is almost 38 years old, but he has not lost the desire to compete and is ready to shock everyone in 2025. The former world number 1 has already left everyone speechless by announcing Andy Murray as his new coach for the 2025 Australian Open. The first Grand Slam of the new season is a very important goal for the Serbian ace, who won ten titles at Melbourne Park and is looking for his 25th Major title. Opponents will be very complicated to beat, especially Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz, who have shown that they are ready to dominate the ATP tour in the next decade.

Some fans and insiders are convinced that Djokovic no longer has a chance of winning a Major title and that the triumph at the Paris Olympics was the last feat of his sensational career. After that victory, the current world number 7 struggled a lot to achieve good results in subsequent tournaments and ended his season earlier than expected (missing the Rolex Paris Masters and the Nitto ATP Finals).

The 37-year-old from Belgrade has won many titles during his long career and has come close to the ‘Calendar Grand Slam’ twice (in 2021 and 2023).In a recent interview with his sponsor ‘Head’, the former world No. 1 recalled his triumph at the 2023 French Open with particular emphasis: “That was the historic 23rd. Important moment, obviously. I had a solid tournament. I would say I played pretty good, considering, not that great lead up clay-court season I had to Roland Garros. So I know that in Roland Garros, I play my best tennis on clay, and so that gave me confidence that I can play my best tennis in Paris.”

He also added: “I did, particularly in the last few matches against Carlitos Alcaraz, the semis, and he was in red h*t form, but I had very clear tunnel vision of what I need to do and how I need to approach the match, and I think I played really good tennis there.

And also in the finals, a very solid match against Casper Ruud. That last forehand that went wide from him, I just fell down on the court on the floor and had my children there and my wife and whole family. Just, one of the most beautiful moments I’ve ever experienced.”

A few months later, Novak lost the Wimbledon final to Carlitos Alcaraz at the end of a match in which he had several chances. The Serbian legend took some time to digest that painful loss, but he showed all his incredible mental strength by winning the Cincinnati Masters 1000 (after another sensational battle against Alcaraz) and the US Open (the last Major title won by the Serbian so far).

2024 showed the first signs of decline for Nole, who also had to undergo surgery due to a knee injury suffered at Roland Garros. The veteran from Belgrade continued to wear the brace throughout the rest of the season, complaining of some knee and shoulder pain in his final tournaments of 2024.In recent weeks, the former world number 1 has often spoken to the media and it was an opportunity to retrace the most iconic moments of his career.

During a long interview with ‘Sportklub’, Novak selected the greatest achievements of his amazing career: “I started the season by winning the Australian Open and that started the streak. I kept winning and winning, and the more I won, the better I felt on the court. I didn’t care who was on the other side of the net. It was a phenomenal feeling that can only happen once.

The second achievement was when I won four consecutive Grand Slams in 2015–2016. I always dreamed of winning Wimbledon and becoming world number one.

The third feat was defeating Roger Federer in the 2019 Wimbledon final. The final was very intense, probably the most intense match I have ever played. I could add the Australian Open final with Rafael Nadal in 2012.

The fourth was winning my 23rd Grand Slam title at Roland Garros 2023, after which I became the record holder.”
