Goldberg spent portions of the prior day’s episode coughing. “Whoopi’s been sick, so, heads up,” Sara Haines told McKinnon.
Kate McKinnon received a warm welcome to The View from Whoopi Goldberg’s cold.
As McKinnon, 40, made her way out to the Hot Topics table, she worked her way down the line of five cohosts, kissing all on the cheek before taking a seat for her interview.

“I’m sorry, I had to kiss everybody. It’s rude not to kiss. It’s my first time at The View. I’m a virgin. Be gentle, thank you!” McKinnon told the cohosts, to which Goldberg responded: “The first thing you’re gonna get from The View is a little cold, because that’s what I’ve got.”
Cohost Sara Haines quickly jumped in, informing McKinnon with a “heads up” that “Whoopi’s been sick,” while Joy Behar quipped, “Too late!”
McKinnon proceeded, telling Goldberg, “No problem. I’ll take it!”
Goldberg referenced her condition on Monday’s episode of The View, which saw her cough a few times as she moderated Hot Topics discussions about Donald Trump.
Later in the interview, Behar also cued up a clip of McKinnon impersonating her on a past season of SNL, and rejoiced over the fact that, after Fred Armisen portrayed her on the sketch comedy series in the past, finally a woman had taken on the role on the show.
“I wanted to do the most fabulous Joy Behar that had ever been done. Sometimes it just doesn’t come,” McKinnon said of playing the 81-year-old on the series, before turning to Behar and praising her for her work on the long-running talk program. “I adore you, and it was an honor.”
