During the Crimson Tide’s matchup with the Bulldogs, Ryan – a star receiver for Alabama – had a sensational catch against Georgia, leading to a bevy of moves that eventually led to a touchdown. The 17-year-old’s impressive touchdown sealed the game for Alabama, downing Georgia 41-34.
After Ryan’s moves and subsequent touchdown exploded on social media, many former star athletes commended the teenager for his incredible feat. Serena was one of those former stars, posting a message on X that had fans wondering if there was a connection between her and the star receiver.
“Honestly this is pretty impressive from my 17year old cousin ha go Cuz!” Williams wrote as she quote-posted SportsCenter’s video of Ryan’s play. Her post garnered 10 million impressions and over 122,000 people liked her post, with many wondering if the two stars were related in some way,
“That explains the skill level, sheesh,” one fan wrote in response. Another fan posted: “Serena, you better explain what cousin means in the language of Compton, because the replies are hilarious.”
Ryan Williams had an impressive game against Georgia, spinning his way to a touchdown
In the same vein, a commenter noted that many of Serena’s fans did not understand that the tennis legend was not actually related to Ryan. “Lord help us all with how many think she is being serious here,” the commenter wrote.
It must be noted that Ryan is not actually related to Serena as the former was born in Mobile, Alabama while the latter is from California. There has been no record of the two formally announcing they were related in any way.
The most likely reason for Serena’s post is just to shout out what the 17-year-old was doing in a marquee game. Her usage of “Cuz” or “cousin” could also be used as a term of endearment, rather than any literal meaning.
And considering how he played against Georgia, Ryan earned that praise from Serena. The teenager had six receptions for 177 yards to go along with his impressive touchdown that won the game for Alabama.
Additionally, Ryan showed out during perhaps the biggest game of the college football season. Former president Donald Trump was in attendance to watch the highly-anticipated matchup, as a guest of Alabama businessman Ric Mayers.
Trump was spotted with rock star Kid Rock and star golfer John Daly as they watched the game unfold. At one point, the 78-year-old was seen tossing boxes of popcorn to the crowd below him.
Along with popcorn, Trump’s gameday order was also revealed to consist of sandwiches from McDonalds, a pizza from Dominos pizza, stadium hot dogs and Diet Coke to drink. He was also greeted with “USA” chants as the crowd of over 100,000 people cheered him on.
