WandaVision star Elizabeth Olsen stunned the internet in September of last year when she decided to take down her Instagram page. Naturally, a lot of fans were heartbroken when the actress deactivated her only social media platform but some of them were under the impression that it will only be a temporary thing and that she’s coming back when she feels like it.

It remains unclear why the Scarlet Witch actress chose to leave social media considering a lot of people have enjoyed her wholesome content but there’s a persistent rumor surrounding her Instagram exit which according to reports had something to do with the death of her Marvel co-star Chadwick Boseman. Rumor has it that fans were criticizing her for not posting a tribute for the late actor following his passing but that has never been confirmed.

Now, seven months following her newsmaking Instagram exodus, Olsen is finally breaking her silence about the issue. In an interview with GLAMOUR UK, the actress went into detail about her decision and as it turns out, it didn’t have anything to do with Boseman’s passing or the comments she’s been receiving.

In fact, it was more of a personal thing as she was starting to grow more and more uncomfortable with the concept of presenting a “character version” of herself on social media. She also noted that the pressure of serving as an official voice regarding certain issues doesn’t exactly appeal to her.

Olsen explains: “The whole thing just made me uncomfortable and it’s not even like I was really paying attention to comments or anything, I just felt weird how it organized my brain, like, if something happened in the world, I would say, ‘Oh, do I have to post about this?’”

She continued: “I think it’s very dangerous to think, ‘Oh, something just happened in the world. I am an entitled person whose voice must be heard on this issue.’ and I just think that is such a narcissistic viewpoint that we’re all a part of, like, it made us all live in this weird narcissistic cycle.”

Later in the interview, the Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness star pretty much confirmed that she’s no longer going back to social media and she intends to stay firm with her decision. “During the pandemic, I was like, ‘Oh, well. you know what, this just is not for me and I just got rid of it and I won’t go back. I’m never going back to social media.”

I gotta say, as much as I am bummed out to learn that her decision to leave the platform for good is final, I still admire her courage in addressing the issue and at the end of the day, it’s still her prerogative whether or not she wants to stay in the crazy world of social media. If it doesn’t make her happy anymore, then let her be.

Meanwhile, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is set to hits theaters in 2022.
